RENO, Nev – Construction resumes on a $16 million project to improve South McCarran from Virginia Street to Mira Loma Drive on Sunday, April 22 at 7 p.m.

Granite Construction is the contractor for the project designed by consultants Wood Rodgers.

In 2011, Granite completed the work from Virginia Street to just west of Longley Lane. The work this year includes reconstruction and widening of South McCarran from the existing four lanes to six lanes
between Longley Lane and Mira Loma Drive.

For the first few weeks beginning on April 22, Granite will be working on McCarran at the Longley Lane intersection which will require an alternating closure of half the intersection. Granite will work days and nights, 7-days a week. During this time, traffic to and from Longley will be detoured through Airway Drive and Peckham Lane.

At minimum, one paved lane in each direction on McCarran will be
open to thru-traffic. Businesses in the area will remain open and will have access to their locations during construction. We encourage the public to visit and support them.

This phase of the project is anticipated to be completed in September 2012. When completed, the new roadway will relieve congestion, increase safety and improve the community aesthetics, which also include the addition of ADA ramps.
