RENO, NV - The Board of Washoe County Commissioners denied the use of Bartley Ranch Park for a car auction that would be held at the same time as the Hot August Nights auction.
Wearing 'Hot August Nights' shirts, representatives and volunteers told the board the second auction would draw bidders from HAN's auction.
Mitch Silver of Silver Collector Car Auctions asked to rent Bartley Ranch Park for the event. Silver said the event would draw more people and money into the area during HAN. He also said other cities successfully hold several car auctions at the same time.
Commissioners refused to rent Bartley Ranch to Silver. They cited concerns about parking and a school nearby being in-session.
Silver may find an alternate venue for his auction, possibly Carson City.
Silver's company used to conduct the Hot August Nights auction. HAN executive director Tony Marini said "through some differences (Silver) is no longer the auction company he opted out of the contract that he had for last year and walked away."
Hot August Nights' CEO left last year, after a controversial plan to hold events in Long Beach, California. The plan was scrapped. Marini said he's "excited about the new direction of Hot August Nights."
Silver was not immediately available following the commissioners' decision.
