Chinese New Year Preparations in Full Swing

RENO, NV - The Chinese Association of Northern Nevada is welcoming the year of the Dragon with open arms. They're planning their annual Chinese New Year Celebration at the Atlantis this year.

"This year is the year of the dragon which means we're going to have luck in careers, in romance and also health," Celebration organizer Johnny Lau said. "All the animals are good, but dragon years are especially good."

It will be an evening filled with Chinese culture. Anyone is welcome to come and experience the live performances, music and chinese cuisine.

"You're going to learn about all different aspects of Chinese culture so it's a great experience without having to pay thousands of dollars to go to China to experience that," Lau said. And the food - I realize that we have a lot of Chinese food here but we're going to have some special food at the event so I'm really hoping people come and experience it."

Last years celebration was a sold-out event and drew a crowd of about 1500.

"This celebration is all about bringing our Chinese culture to the people of Northern Nevada," Lau said. "Tickets this year are $9 but you get $10 back in free play so it's basically free. Kids are $5 and they get $5 worth of tokens to use in the casino arcade."

The event kicks off in the Atlantis Paradise Ballroom at 5 p.m. January 28. Tickets are available by calling Lau at (775) 240-3568
