CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - State Sen. Barbara Cegavske of Las Vegas has joined the Republican field seeking the nomination to represent Nevada's newly created 4th Congressional District.
Cegavske filed her paperwork Friday. Four other Republicans, including former U.S. Senate contender Danny Tarkanian, also have filed for the seat. Others running in the GOP primary are Dan Schwartz, Kenneth Wegner and Diana Anderson.
Cegavske says if elected she'll work to balance the budget, reduce government spending and protect Medicare and Social Security.
Nevada gained a 4th House district after the 2010 Census.
Democratic state Sen. Steven Horsford also intends to run. The district includes portions of seven counties, most of the rural, and a large urban region of Las Vegas.
