RENO, Nev. (AP) - An orange tabby cat named Splash is back in the arms of his 8-year-old owner, a year after wandering away from his northern Nevada home.

Washoe County sheriff's officials say Splash disappeared last July after his family moved from Loyalton, Calif., to Cold Springs. Mandie Sheridan says she talked to neighbors and searched for her daughter's cat at animal shelters, but never found the pet.

Last week, the family got a call and learned that a Washoe County animal control officer had found the cat in nearby Sun Valley.

Authorities say a tiny microchip with the Sheridan family's information was implanted in Splash's body and helped officers track his owners.

Sheridan says her daughter Carlie was elated to find Splash, which she had adopted four years earlier.
