GARDNERVILLE, Nev. (AP) - A wildfire south of Gardnerville is 100 percent contained as of Monday afternoon, according to Sierra Front.

The Carter Springs fire that broke out along U.S. 395 burned about 5 square miles, or 3,400 acres.

But crews were able to stop its progression in the Pine Nut Mountains, and the fire is now essentially confined to unburned areas within its perimeter.

Officials say the fire started on private land. The cause remains under investigation.

U.S. 395, which was closed for several hours after the fire erupted, was open Monday with no controls.

Two helicopters continue to make water drops on hot spots and 200 firefighters remain on the scene.

No homes or buildings were lost.
