RENO, NV - "I think I can, I think I can, I think I can."
That has to be running through all of these students' and adults' minds as they build their structures for the 9th annual Canstruction Competition.
Will someone come over and kick down someone's display just before the judges get here?
"Absolutely not,” says Helyse Turner with Sierra Nevada Job Corp.
That's because the cans are taped together and stacked carefully.
With the help of local architects, professional and school groups place one can on top of another, and another and another to create designs that depend upon labels and the food itself to win top honors.
“The whole concept is an I Pad with an app on it called, "I Can Feed," says Turner
Turner says it took about 12 hours of planning and three prototypes to get to this point.
Keep in mind they had to find a canned food label that would mimic an I Pad.
“I want them t think about people out there who need food,” says Janet Leis with Harrahs.
Leis is leader of the Harrah's squad.
She says their design is suppose to look like a slot machine--one that has just made a pay out.
The pay off?
Once the competition is through, The Food Bank of Northern Nevada will be able to replenish its shelves.
Besides, the juror award, best use of labels, best meal, there's also a people's choice award, and you can participate.
Come to Meadowood Mall to the information booth and cast your vote.
Results will be announced this Sunday.
