Reno, NV - Dozens braved the cold and waited outside in downtown Reno for a chance to work at a new restaurant, set to open in November. But this isn't just any restaurant. It will be run by an accomplished chef who has made quite a name for himself, and that's why so many people were jumping at the chance to learn from him.
Mark Estee is the guy who's not only opening doors, but opportunities for people in our area.
The long line outside of what will be Campo attracted all kinds of people who are hoping to get a job there.
"I don't know if I expected it to be this long," says Estee, referring to the line of people outside of the restaurant. "It shows the economy out there is really rough. It also shows that people know what we're doing and what we're about."
What is Campo about?
"We're going to be rustic cuisine," says Estee. "Using whatever is local and fresh and Italian sensibility."
But what's gathering the most attention is the restaurant's salumi program.
"Everyone says what is salumi?" says Estee. "It's also known as salami but we cure our own meats."
A fresh idea, especially here in Reno. That's why so many here want to work with Estee. He's a former personal chef to Sir Paul McCartney and he also owns Burger Me and Moody's. But Campo, which is still under construction, will be his home base. And you'll see him in the kitchen.
"Started in this business 20 years ago as a dishwasher and worked my way up," says Estee. "And I worked with a lot of great people, so I'm a big believer in creating a good team."
Campo will hold another job fair on Thursday, right near the restaurant around 50 N. Sierra Street. The interviews take place where Urban Beets used to be. The job fair runs from 3pm until 6pm. Campo is set to open on Wednesday, November 2nd.
