RENO, NV - Several businesses say their operations are being affected by escalating gas prices.
"We sometimes have to raise our pricing as well when the gas prices go so high," Cathy Parrish, owner of Flowers by Patti, which is named for a retired relative, said.
Parrish said eighty percent of her business is delivery. She said the plan is to make deliveries in fewer trips. That is especially when going to outlying areas, she added.
"(Delivery is) basically a break-even proposition," she said. She said customers don't always consider the cost of the vehicle and insurance, among other costs.
At Moana Nursery, the floral delivery and landscaping service are affected by higher gas costs. "It's one more thing we have to deal with," Bruce Gescheider, one of the owners, said.
He said the rising cost of gas has been unanticipated. "I'm sure most people didn't budget for it, we certainly didn't."
Some economists predict gas could climb to nearly five dollars in the coming months. While some are concerned gas prices could affect the recovery, Parrish said business is looking good. She said she is hopeful for a recovery.
