RENO, NV - Since March a pair of late night smash-and-grab burglars have hit a number of small businesses in the Truckee Meadows.
Their crime spree continues. The count is now 41 businesses in Reno with several more in Sparks.
The latest victim is the Los Compadres Restaurant on East Fourth Street where the burglars broke in and attempted to open the safe early Monday morning.
The M.O. remains the same. The thieves move quickly, smashing a window or door, look for cash and leave before police can arrive.
"It's hard for us to catch them," says Reno Police Sgt. Pat Dreelan. "By the time we get the alarm through out system three or four minutes have gone by and they're long gone."
THE THIEVES HAVE BEEN CONCEALING THEIR FACES.
SO FAR THE DESCRIPTIONS ARE ONLY A WHITE AND A BLACK MAN, AVERAGE BUILD.
POLICE ARE ADVISING BUSINESS OWNERS TO SECURE THEIR CASH AND MAKE SURE THEIR SECURITY SYSTEMS ARE WORKING.###
The thieves have been concealing their faces. Security camera video shows little detail and the only descriptions that have been circulated are two young men, one white, one black, of average build.
Police are advising business owners to security their cash and make sure their security systems are working.
They're also asking the public for help.
"It's going to take a little bit of information," says Dreelan. "Somebody's going to know something. Somebody's going to hearing something. We've put out a couple of pictures that might match the physical description of somebody they know and we're just hoping to catch a break on this thing."
Secret Witness has posted a $1,000 reward for information leading to arrest and prosecution. Their number is 322-4900. Callers may remain anonymous while collecting cash rewards.
