SILVER SPRINGS, Nev. (AP) - Fire investigators say arson is a possibility in a fire in Lyon County that destroyed an abandoned mobile home and burned nearly 100 acres before dozens of firefighters snuffed it out near U.S. Highway 50 in Silver Springs.
Central Lyon County Fire Protection Chief John Gillenwater told KOLO-TV the cause of the blaze remains under investigation but authorities believe it was set inside the trailer about 2 p.m. Tuesday.
It quickly spread to neighboring brush and burned to within about a mile of the highway near the Churchill County line. No injuries were reported.
Gillenwater says air tankers assisted about 75 crew members on the ground. He says they got a good jump on the fire and had it contained within three hours thanks in part to a call from a passing motorist.
