Churchill Victim Most Likely Died of Gunshot Wound

FALLON, NV - A description of the remains found in a shallow grave near Exit 65 off I-80 has been released. Authorities say the victim most likely died of a gunshot wound.

Sheriff Trotter with the Churchill County Sheriff's Office says the victim was a white male with white hair and a small patch of hair on his chin.

He says the man had been missing two front teeth for a long time.

Sometime in his life, the victim sustained a shattered right femur and had a metal rod surgically installed inside the bone of his right femur, according to Sheriff Trotter.

Evidence indicates the victim most likely died of a gunshot wound. Toxicology results are pending. Sheriff Trotter says foul play is not being ruled out.

The Medical Examiner has yet to provide a report or an estimate for time of death.

FALLON, NV - Churchill County Sheriff Ben Trotter confirmed to KOLO 8 News Now Sunday that a body has been discovered in a shallow grave near Exit 65 off I-80.

The discovery was made by a camper who climbed a small hill to watch the sunset Saturday night.

It is believed the victim is a male adult.

The body has been taken to the Washoe County Medical Examiner to determine a cause of death, and possibly the identity of the victim.

Anyone who may have additional information that can help with the investigation is asked to call the Churchill County Sheriff's Office or Secret Witness at 322-4900.
