CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Drug testing would be required to receive public assistance in Nevada under a bill introduced in the Nevada Senate.
SB89 is sponsored by Republican Sen. James Settelmeyer of Minden.
He says the goal is not to deny benefits to people in need but to get them into treatment programs.
The bill would require testing when someone applies for services, such as Medicaid or food stamps.
Public assistance could be denied if drug screening or treatment is refused.
