RENO, Nev. -- Traffic is moving between Reno and Washoe Valley again after a vehicle and bicyclist collided on old 395 Saturday morning. It happened near the Chocolate Factory.
A Nevada Highway Patrol representative says that for unknown reasons, the cyclist took a wide turn and moved into the travel lanes, hitting a white Dodge.
An ambulance took the cyclist, identified as 46-year-old Robin John Haywood of Graceville in Queensland, Australia, to the hospital. His injuries included a broken neck, several broken bones, cuts, and bruises. Despite the number and severity of injuries, they are said to be non-life-threatening.
Haywood was participating in the Expedition Man ultra-triathlon, an endurance competition spanning Lake Tahoe, Carson City, Reno, and Sparks.
