RENO, NV - With Friday's fire storm not yet a memory, the report of a fire sent Reno firefighters racing to Panther Valley Tuesday afternoon.
"The wind was fairly strong at the station," says Battlion Chief Todd Keckley, "so I upgraded it."
As it turned out it was a backyard fire, burning in a heavy growth of grass and weeds, perhaps started by kids. Firefighters kept it to a quarter acre. Damage was limited to a shed.
It could have been much worse. There were a number of nearby homes and plenty of fuel, but fortunately no wind.
Yet another reminder that the fire season is never over.
