A man is in custody after he's accused of hitting his girlfiend, stealing her car, then becoming aggressive with a Washoe County sheriff's deputy.
Washoe County Sheriff's Department's cars lined the streets of Moon lane Saturday afternoon. Deputies had 33-year-old Ian Rucker surrounded. They say he hit his girlfriend Friday night, took her car, then showed up at her house today.
"I responded to make contact because the female was fearing for safety," says Blaine Beard who was the first deputy on scene.
When Deputy Beard pulled onto Moon Lane, he says Rucker got in his mom's car and tried to get away. When the car door opened, Rucker is accused of swinging his fist at Deputy Beard multiple times.
"He was detained at that point, placed in handcuffs and tried to kick out the window to my vehicle. He was removed from the vehicle, placed on the ground and waited on scene until leg restraints showed up and we secured him," says Deputy Beard.
Deputy Beard says there was a tense moment when Rucker was inside the mother's car. He says Rucker was looking for something under the seat, the deputy didn't know at that time what he could be reaching for.
"I withdrew my firearm from the holster. I had no idea what he was going for, and i still don't know what he was going for, but he kept reaching under the seat. I asked him afterward why he would do such a thing, and he said he didn't want to go back to jail," says Deputy Beard.
Deputies say Rucker had multiple warrants for his arrest.
