WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif.—A third-inning solo homer for Sacramento’s Jemile Weeks accounted for all of the offense Thursday night, as the River Cats tied the Pacific Conference Championship Series at a game apiece with a 1-0 victory over the Reno Aces at Raley Field.
Weeks led-off the third inning with a full-count solo home run off Aces starter Daniel Cabrera. As it would turn out, that’s all the River Cats would get and it was all they would need. Reno managed just four hits on the evening, finishing 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position.
The best-of-five series is knotted at 1-1 and now moves to Aces Ballpark for Games 3, 4 and 5.
Cabrera (0-1) took the hard-luck loss, surrendering just a run on six hits over 4.0 innings of work. After his exit, Zach Kroenke, Mike DeMark and Matt Gorgen combined for 4.0 scoreless innings.
Jesse Chavez (1-0) picked-up the win for the River Cats, tossing 8.0 shutout frames. Jeremy Accardo slammed the door in the ninth for the save.
At the dish for Reno, A.J. Pollock registered Reno’s lone multi-hit effort with a pair of singles.
The series now shifts to Reno, beginning Friday night. In Game 3, RHP Charles Brewer (11-7, 5.99 ERA) takes the ball for the Aces, while RHP Travis Banwart (9-5, 3.85 ERA) counters for the River Cats. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT.
