A Night Out to Highlight Boys & Girls Club Week

RENO, Nev. - Every year the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows transforms the Donald W. Reynolds facility on East 9th street into a carnival. More than 600 club members come out to enjoy the fun.

“It's the best day of my life, I'm having a great day,” club member Erick Rivera said. “Hopefully my mom will get to come down, she should be here in about ten minutes.”

It's the culmination of National Boys & Girls Club Week. Nearly 4,000 clubs nationwide open their doors to showcase what their clubs have to offer.

“This is really an opportunity to showcase what we do here every day,” board member Kerri Garcia said. “Every day we bring kids here and try to show them a healthy lifestyle and how to be productive citizens. Today is a fun night for all of them and it's a way for them to really come and enjoy themselves.”

Hundreds of volunteers help make the evening a success.

“We have a number of organizations from NV Energy to Microsoft that bring their employees here to volunteer for the night and give back to the kids,” Garcia said. “It's definitely a community effort and it's amazing to see volunteers from around the community come here to spend time with the kids.”

Performers from Circus Circus Reno put on a show and kids had the chance to try their hands at a number of carnival games.

“My favorite part is the games because you don't know which one you're going to be good at,” club member Jocelyn Rinas said. “So you get to try each one and that's really fun.”

“It's great because they have bounce houses and we'll be able to go into the techmobile,” club member Mariah Hare said. “Inside there's a carnival with games and fun puzzles to work out.”

The Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows serves more than 11,000 children at 20 sites throughout the region.
