Real I.D Real Popular
Reno Nevada’s new Real I.D are a little less than two months old. By the end of the week these new IDS will be available statewide. Already the DMV is seeing trends, as just who is getting the ID and who isn’t. They say these IDS have proven more popular than first expected.

Many aren't waiting until 2014 to get a Real I-D.

RENO, NV - The deadline for most people to get these IDS is 2014. But the DMV says and people we talked to confirm, they aren’t waiting that long.
The Carson City DMV was the first to issue the Real I.D or Star Card as it’s commonly called back on January 11th. It was about an hour wait when we were here this morning, and two people we talked to say they were here to renew, and to get their new issued I.D.
“Everything, passport, social security card, old driver's license, proof of residency, all that stuff they need, every piece of information they can get on you to make sure you do get to have it,” says Carson Resident Lynne Thomas.
“We are really encouraging people because of the long lines, because of furloughs that are essentially a reduction in the work force we are encouraging people wait until your renewal date. You don't have to get it until 2014 in the worst case scenario,” says Tom Jacobs from Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles
Jacobs says the DMV is seeing about a 40-percent of licenses now issued, are the Star or ASI card. Here in Carson City, its about 38-percent, but in Las Vegas, is higher. That has meant longer waits there. To help speed up the process workers are in line to check documents, so if they are inadequate, people don't have to wait in line any further.
Here at the Reno DMV that's what happened to Sandra Jamieson, but she is unfazed and getting a standard license today.
“I can get a regular license. I can't get the gold star because I don't have my original social security card.
You have until how long?
“2014 so I said why worry now,” says Jamieson.
Just about everyone has until 20-14 to get their ASI Identification.
There is one exception: first timers for driver's licenses or I.D.S. They will need to have the proper documentation as they don't have a choice, they have to get the Star card.

I listened to the news this AM and was told that if I wanted more information about what was required to renew my license for the "real ID" to go online. I did this and I can't find what is needed to get this new ID. I had just listened to the news there was no other info online. What a waste of time.
