More than a dozen women, out shopping in Reno Monday morning--helped save another woman's life.

It happened around 10:30 a.m. Monday at the shopping center on McCarran and Mira Loma in East Reno. A loud screech and a crash, followed by panic--and then some quick action from a few local heroes

"We heard a screech and a loud bang," said Shari Rudoff who was sitting in a nearby car when it happened.

"We saw it was filled with smoke. There was a huge billow of smoke, just so thick," added Jane Anderson who left the checkout line to help out.

Accident investigators say the woman driving a car had a medical emergency while behind the wheel--perhaps a seizure, and crashed into two vehicles in front of the Dollar Tree. But her car couldn't go anywhere--so the tires spun, burning holes into the asphalt and filling her car with a toxic-smelling smoke.

"It was very automatic. We were all just trying to get those windows down, get the smoke out," said Anderson.

About a dozen women shopping at the Dollar Tree rushed outside to help.

"We couldn't get the lady out of the car, she was stuck inside of the car," said Rudoff, who recognized the signs of a seizure--she's epileptic herself--and knew just what to do.

"When you have a seizure, it's good when you rub a person on the back of the head and hold their hand. She held my hand and she trusted me," added Rudoff.

When firefighters and police arrived minutes later, they took over, helping get the victim out of the car and into the ambulance for treatment. As for Jane Anderson, whose car was smashed in, she says her vehicle is the least of her concerns.

"I know her insurance or my insurance will take care of it. It's that lady, I'm happy that lady is okay," said Anderson.

"She'll be okay. I feel really good about it," added Rudoff.

Police say the victim will survive, and that the women who helped her and called 911 did just the right thing.

Police say the victim was treated on scene and released. The accident is still under investigation.
