RENO, NV - With recent news of our state's ever-increasing unemployment rate--now at 13 percent--many locals say despite national claims, the economy here does not seem to be improving much. But even with a meager outlook, some local entrepreneurs are still risking it all to follow a dream.
Longtime Reno-ites Margret and Steve Suda say the recession actually helped them realize their potential. After Steve took an early retirement from IGT, the family decided to follow their dream of opening up a small café with a healthy, friendly feel.
That's when "Plum Good" made its debut at Plumb and Arlington in Southwest Reno. The owner's daughter, Nicole says while there is always a risk in opening up a business, the bad economy actually helped everything fall into place.

"What the recession did do is make things more accessible. The location, the equipment, the employees," said Nicole Suda.
She says the café fulfills a concept that Reno hasn't seen yet. They serve create-your-own salads, hearty homemade soups, and for dessert, self-serve frozen yogurt with more toppings than you'll ever need. Unlike most businesses at Plumb Gate, Plum Good is open for dinner.
"Business owners who have shops in the same complex say they are extremely excited to have new neighbors.
"There's more stuff for moms to do. They'll come in and shop and then take their kids to get frozen yogurt. Plus I get to go get frozen yogurt. There's more foot traffic now. We're really excited to have them," said Rockabye owner, Emily Reid.
Nicole says the name "Plum Good" comes from the meaning, "an excellent or desirable thing," which she hopes will become a Reno staple that's here for the long haul.
"Our family has been here 22 years. My brother and I grew up here, went to UNR. We're part of Reno and my parents wanted to bring that back, give something back to Reno," said Nicole Suda.
Plum Good is open Sundays through Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
