MINDEN, Nev. (AP) - A Gardnerville woman faces up to 10 years in prison for striking a pedestrian with her pickup truck and leaving him injured.

Twenty-seven year old Melissa Rose Hernandez pleaded guilty Tuesday to attempted failure to stop at the scene of an accident involving personal injury or death.

Thirty-two year-old Cayle Hanson suffered a ruptured spleen and other injuries in the July 22 accident. Authorities say he lay on the road for about a half hour before two boys saw him and called for help.

In exchange for her plea, prosecutors agreed to recommend a suspended prison sentence of one to three years, with possible jail time as a part of probation.

Sentencing was set for Jan. 5.

Hernandez told District Judge Dave Gamble she thought she struck an animal.
