CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Allowing digital billboards in some areas of Reno will be considered this week by the Reno Planning Commission.

A city code change would restrict placement of the billboards to well lit areas outside downtown and prohibit them within 1,000 feet of residential areas.

But a group called Scenic Nevada wants a moratorium. The organization worked to pass a voter-approved initiative in 2000 that they say bans all new billboards within the city.

Group leaders want city officials to hold off voting on the code until a public safety study due out early next year is published by the U.S. Federal Highway Administration.

The commission meets at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Digital Boards illuminate far better than energy wasting, light polluting, upward pointing lights. I don't like any bill board but prefer digital over the wasteful night sky killing old boards.
