CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Politicians joined thousands of people at the 71st annual Nevada Day parade today in Carson City.
Among statewide elected officials who took part in the parade were Gov. Jim Gibbons, Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki, Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto and Secretary of State Ross Miller.
Abraham Lincoln, portrayed by Wally Earhart of Carson City, was the parade grand marshal.
Lincoln signed a proclamation on Oct. 30, 1864, making Nevada the 36th state.
Nevada has recognized the date as a state holiday since 1938. Only two other states - Hawaii and West Virginia - hold similar celebrations.
Among about 200 parade entries were high school bands, Pony Express club riders and the U.S. Marshals mounted posse.
Other Nevada Day festivities included beard and single-jack drilling contests.
