The state entomologist, Jeff Knight, says the crickets are not mormon crickets, but a common species called "field crickets."

The reason they are out in great numbers right now is because the dry lake bed in Lemmon Valley received more rain last week than it probably has all year. The extra moisture sent the crickets searching for a dry place to hang out, people's yards, garages and sheds in Lemmon Valley.

Luckily, these chirping insects will not do any damage to your home or plants. He says instead of spraying them, the best way to deal with them is to purchase cricket or and grasshopper bait to use outside of your house in order to keep them from trying to go in.

Knight also says to remember that some cultures believe crickets around your home is actually a sign of good luck.
