Business attorney Michael Roberson is announcing his candidacy for state Senate in District 5.

In a statement released Sunday, the Henderson resident said he plans to run for the position currently held by Democrat Joyce Woodhouse, who is running for re-election.

"Like many Nevadans, I have grown frustrated with the tax-and-spend policies coming out of Carson City, especially during a crippling, job killing recession," Roberson says. "Too many Nevada businesses have gone under and too many of our residents have lost their jobs, their homes and their retirement savings. I am running to restore the common sense that has escaped incumbent Sen. Joyce Woodhouse."

Roberson is a law graduate of the University of Kansas and has been endorsed by the Senate Republican Caucus.
