Cantina Los Tres Hombres In Sparks: "Yes, We're Open!"
We did a story several weeks back about the old Cantina Los Tres Hombres in Reno that went out of business. Apparently, many of our viewers thought that meant the Sparks restaurant was also shutting down. But that's not the case. They're still open. and the owner says they're still determined to come out of the recession on top.

It's no surprise that local businesses are fighting for your attention these days. Many owners say they want to scream it from the rooftop..."Yes, we're open!" But sometimes, it takes a little creativity to figure out just how to get people through the front door.
We did a story several weeks back about the old Cantina Los Tres Hombres in Reno that went out of business. Apparently, many of our viewers thought that meant the Sparks restaurant was also shutting down. But that's not the case. They're still open. and the owner says they're still determined to come out of the recession on top.
These days, many businesses will go to extremes to get people to notice them. For the Sparks Cantina, being open is a good place to start.
"We definitely are not closed. We are open with the same great food, service and chef," said Cantina owner, Justin Quinton.
Quinton says he anticipated getting all of the Reno restaurant's regular customers to switch over to the Sparks eatery, but instead, his sales went down by 30 percent. He says he gets calls everyday from people who think his restaurant is closed. When driving by, it almost looks like it is.
"Driving by and word of mouth is the best way and the cheapest way to get people in here. So I think there could probably be something else we could do to say 'we're open!'" said Quinton.
Dozens of businesses in town are shouting the same message...yes, we are open for business! Employees at South Side Café on South Virginia Street say it nearly closed its doors due to lack of business. The mirrored windows make it hard to see if anyone's inside, so some people just keep on driving.
"They say, we didn't know you were open. They've driven by plenty of times, but say they didn't know we were here. It's always dark," said waitress, Shannon Mackey.
Mackey says these new signs have helped, and the business is here to stay.
"We're happy they stopped by to see that we are open," she adds.
"It is a different time, a more challenging time, but it's also a time to really reflect on what you're doing and what you can offer people," said Quinton, who is always trying to re-invent and re-introduce his restaurant.
Quinton says what Cantina Los Tres Hombres in Sparks is offering is a chance at a new start, plus great food, and live music every day of the week. Most importantly, they want you to know yes, they are open!
