RENO, NV - Vice President Joe Biden began his public appearances in Reno with a fundraiser for Senator Harry Reid. It was an early show of support in what is expected to be a contentious senate race and it was an early show of political might.
As morning commuters hustled to work on highway 395, a political powerplay was underway at the Grand Sierra Resort. While Senator Harry Reid and Vice President Joe Biden hosted a $2400 a plate breakfast, Republican candidate Sue Lowden used the opportunity to grab her share of the spotlight with a free breakfast and canned food drive.
Then come the democrats. A caravan of Reid supports piled in to make donations and grab it back. When that wasn't enough, a few republican protesters were thrown in for good measure. Some reno residents we spoke to thought the political three ring circus was taking away from what should be center stage. Vic Standberg said they need to talk about the issues. Soccer mom Jennifer Rogers called the situations "ridiculous."
However, the real question in all of this isn't who has the better breakfast or who can raise more canned food. It's who can do more for Nevada.
Phoebe Sweet, who helped organize the Democrat's food donation says we need to build on the Democratic support of the 2008 election. But Republican candidate for Senate Sue Lowden disagrees. Lowden points to the fact that we get $0.65 of every $1 we send to Washington. Lowden thinks we can do better.
This is just the beginning of Campaign 2010. Expect more political posturing and publicity stunts, maybe even a few more campaign breakfasts.

Don't you just love when Millionaires like Reid and Lowden fight for us poor people. Kind of makes you sick. I just got a campaign fundraising letter from Millionaire Sue Lowden. I will send her a check for a penny. That will pay for one thought. "Why do millionaires think they know whats best for "We the People"."
I wish all of the campaigning would stop and the elected officials like Biden and Reid would get back to work rather than worrying about raising money for the next election. They spent the last two years of Bush's presidiency campaigning and now they are starting with 3 years before the next election. The way to win the next election would be to get back to work and prove you belong there by getting things done and resolving this countries problems.
Now this visit hopefully came out of Reid's own fund and not paid by the People of the US.
