RENO, Nev. (AP) - The Yerington Paiute Tribe will receive $156,300 in federal stimulus funds to upgrade its drinking water system, which serves 71 homes.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Indian Health Service on Wednesday announced $90 million in infrastructure projects nationwide.

Laura Yoshii, acting regional administrator for the EPA in the Pacific Southwest, says that on tribal lands 10 percent of homes lack access to safe drinking water.

Yoshii says that by 2010, more than 4,400 tribal homes in the Pacific Southwest are expected to receive piped drinking water or basic sanitation services for the first time.
