RENO - KOLO 8 has confirmed layoffs are ongoing at International Game Technologies in Reno.
From IGT spokesman Ed Rogich:
"I can confirm that we will be reducing the global workforce this week. Reduction will affect 161 positions worldwide, with equal division between domestic and international workers. This is a continuation of efforts to reduce expenses, consolidate efforts among our business units, and find efficiencies within the organization."
Rogich went on to say that 35% of the layoffs (56 employees) are from the Reno Market.

It's so nice of IGT to say that the layoffs will be spread out equally, worldwide, between domestic and foreign workers. What about all of the domestic jobs that have been taken away from us by foreign workers? I know many immigrants who are still working 2 jobs in Reno. If the immigrants would spend their paychecks here instead of sending money back to their home countries, the economy would be in much better shape than it is in right now!

I agree with the comments below. Rogich is not from Northern Nevada, and neither is Patti Hart. What once was once a great Northern Nevada company and one of the largest employers in this town, is now migrating South. Last I heard, the "Headquarters" was Reno, not Las Vegas (thanks T.J. Matthews). Rumor has it, the cuts aren't over, and more will fall before the layoffs are done.

Um, the company told the employees. If you didn't know, you weren't paying attention. Many of the employees that were effected had known for months that this was coming. I do think that Rogich's "56" employees is low.
