SPARKS, Nev. (AP) - A checkpoint in Washoe County over the weekend resulted in 3 arrests for driving under the influence and nearly two dozen citations for seat belt violations.
The Sparks Police Department, Washoe County sheriff's office and the Nevada Highway Patrol conducted a five-hour DUI checkpoint on Pyramid Highway on Sunday.
More than 2,000 vehicles passed through the checkpoint. Officers also handed out five child restraint citations and 12 citations for no insurance.
The highway patrol said there were three DUI checkpoints scheduled for the holiday weekend.
The Nevada Department of Public Safety-Office of Traffic Safety secured grant money to fund staffing for the checkpoints.
