PAHRUMP, Nev. (AP) - A former Nye County commissioner has been
found guilty of trying to bribe a Pahrump Town Board member in
December 2007.
The Nevada attorney general says Peter Liakopoulos promised his
support for a sales tax increase if his wife was named curator of a
local veterans memorial under development.
On Wednesday a District Court jury in Pahrump found Liakopoulos guilty of felony bribery and misdemeanor counts of offering a reward for an appointment and grafting by a public officer.
Liakopoulos's wife wasn't appointed and Liakopoulos voted against the sales tax issue in December 2007. The measure failed 3-2.
Liakopoulos resigned from the commission after charges were filed.
He's due for sentencing Aug. 24.
