DMV Services Cut
Reno If your plans include going to the DMV anytime in the future, plan more than a little extra time. State budget cuts have forced the closure of DMV express offices and furloughs of people who work at DMV.
Offices closed its doors for good last Wednesday. Posted: 1:51 PM Jun 29, 2009Reporter: Terri Russell |

There were notices on the door, but some people missed the message. The convenience, time saved, and lack of long lines made express offices the first option for many drivers in Northern Nevada.
Maria Warf was ready to registered her husband's motorcycle first thing today. It expires tomorrow .That was until we told her the DMV Express had closed its doors.
“I really like it, because you can go in and you are out in time. And I live in Silver Springs, I come in from Silver Springs so I come to work and get this done, just a lot easier,” says Warf.
Business ended at this facility here in Sparks officially Wednesday. The office is now an empty shell in a strip mall. Maria will now have to drive three miles from here to the main DMV office on Galetti Way in Reno.
And this is what she can expect: Heavier traffic, limited parking in the front. And that’s just the beginning. You can also expect longer lines once you get inside.
Indeed this may be the first impact of state budget cut to be felt by Nevada residents.
“Basically we gave the legislature a collection of options closing the Reno and Sparks Express offices along with eliminating 132 positions, along with eliminating travel, training and a lot of other things in the budget, basically we got cut down to the bone, says Tom Jacobs with the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles.
Jacobs and other don't expect DMV Express offices to start up anytime soon. Budget problems will dictate that. But when the agency can afford to do it, they may find trouble finding a landlord for such an office. That's because the landlord has to alter the rental space, and in economic times they may not be able to recover their costs.
There are DMV transactions you can conduct over the internet and not have to wait in line. For more information go to www.dmnvn.com.

Service??? How can they cut something that never existed?? Or is just the "hassle with a smile" that they are cutting? (no more smile?)
Well Nevada has now done it once more. The news about closing the DMV express in Reno and Sparks. Our elected officials at work. The big news which is not being reported is Licensing your vehicle will now cost more also. Why do we continue to pay more for less. Why do we continue to elect these misfits that run the state of Nevada. Well as they say you have not seen anything yet because most of us voters did not pay attention to the bills that have been passed to give you less for more. We will all be feeling what they have done to us when these new bills and laws take effect.
