The Nevada attorney general's office is holding off on a lawsuit against the Sparks City Council now that the city is taking a second look at its private vote that favored a proposed neighborhood casino in the Spanish Springs area.
Nicole Moon, spokeswoman for Attorney General George Chanos,
says her office was contacted by Sparks City Attorney Chet Adams
after the state's threat to sue because of apparent open meeting
law violations.
Moon adds that the state is in discussions with Adams --quote--
"to reach an acceptable resolution" of the dispute over the
council vote last Friday that favored resort developers Harvey
Whittemore and Peppermill Casinos.
Adams at first said he preferred going to court, but contacted
Chanos' office after reviewing Senior Deputy Attorney General Neil
Rombardo letter stating that the attorney general would sue if the
council didn't take a public vote on the Lazy 8 casino.
