CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - The administrator of the Shoshone-Paiute Tribes of the Duck Valley Indian Reservation, based in Owyhee on the Nevada-Idaho border, is taking steps to get a gambling compact with the state of Nevada.
Herman Atkins, the tribal administrator, wasn't immediately available for comment Friday on the compact, which could cover a wide range of gambling activity. The compact must be approved by the state Board of Examiners, chaired by Gov. Jim Gibbons.
Over the years, the state has entered into several Indian gambling compacts. The largest property operating under terms of such a compact is the Avi hotel-casino on the Colorado River in southern Nevada.
Duck Valley is in a remote area about 100 miles north of Elko, Nev., and about 100 miles south of Mountain Home, Ida.
