SPARKS, NV - John Ascuaga's Nugget is gearing up for the 25th Annual Best in the West Rib Cookoff, set for August 28 through September 2.
In 2012, more than half a million people walked along Victorian Avenue to eat more than 100 tons of ribs, according to the Nugget. This year, 24 rib cookers will compete for the Best in the West title, won in 2012 by Chicago BBQ Company.
Contest eater Joey Chestnut will be back to compete in the Rib-Eating Championships, with a $5,000 prize at stake.
Enertainment will include Bad Company, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Mark Chesnutt, Commander Cody and His Modern Day Airmen, Keller Williams and Diego's Umbrella. Several other bands will perform on a variety of stages throughout the venue.
There will also be daily shuttle service from Legends at Sparks Marina, a children's play area, and a new mascot, Mr, Ribster.
