RENO, Nev. -- The westbound lane of highway 50 was shut down for a time after an unusual traffic stop that originated in Lander County and ended with two in custody.
It started before 2pm in Lander County when a Lander County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) deputy tried to make a traffic stop. The driver refused to pull over and the deputy continued to follow the vehicle.
The vehicle finally stopped on highway 50 near Middlegate Station. LCSO officials will not release how the vehicle came to a stop, however, scanner reports indicated spike strips may have been used.
The LCSO official did confirm two people were in custody, but was unable to provide any more information.
An official with the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) confirms the westbound lane was blocked for a while but reopened less than half an hour later.
Fredda Stevenson with Middlegate Station reports a number of law enforcement vehicles from multiple agencies were at the scene.
