SPARKS, Nev. (AP) - Animal control officials say two pit bulls broke through a fence and entered a neighbor's home in Sparks through a dog door, killing three dogs inside.

A woman and her son returned home Friday to find their black Lab, shih tzu and Pekingese dead, and the pit bulls hovering over one of them.

Washoe County Animal Services Director Barry Brode told KTVN-TV the pit bulls were taken into custody and their owner faced a citation. The pit bulls could be euthanized if a judge orders it.

Brode says dog doors can be secured so no animals can sneak in from the outside.

The woman, who would only identify herself by her first name of Jennifer, says she had worried about burglars but not her dogs "being eaten in their home."
