One woman is dead after a rollover accident on I-80 east near the Gold Ranch Friday night around 7:22 p.m.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, 61-year-old Evelyn Delacruz was riding in the passenger seat of a BMW 2-door sedan being driven by her husband, 63-year-old Cecilio Delacruz when the right rear tire failed, resulting in a blowout. Delacruz lost control of the car, causing it to skid and eventually roll over before landing back on its wheels.

The couple, traveling from Fairfield, Calif., was belted and remained inside the car. Remarkably, the husband escaped without any injuries. His wife was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Both eastbound lanes were temporarily closed while emergency personnel gathered evidence regarding the accident. The lanes were reopened just before 10:30 p.m.
