RENO, Nev. (AP) - Two elementary school students were arrested after one brought an airsoft pellet gun to school and the other accidentally pulled the trigger, striking a third grade girl.

Washoe County School District authorities say the incident on the playground at Grace Warner Elementary School happened before classes Thursday.

Mulvenon said the boy brought the air gun that shoots plastic pellets to school and he and a female classmate were playing. The girl accidentally pulled the trigger and a round pellet inside the gun struck a third grader.

The child had a welt on her skin but was otherwise uninjured and sent to class by her mother.

School district police took the other two students to the Jan Evans Juvenile Justice Center.

I do agree that Air soft guns have no place in school. Let's keep this in context. We are talking about an air soft gun. It is not a pellet gun and it is not a weapon. It is not even an air gun. I believe the student made an error in judgment. I wouldn’t quickly blast the parents until we hear their side of the story. I don’t believe they intentionally allowed this to happen. Given that our children can threaten us with incarceration if we try to discipline them, I would be caucus when holding parents responsible for their children’s actions.

I agree bringing a gun of any kind to school is wrong. But as far as a punishment goes for an air soft gun. I beleive they have had the life scared out of them by being taken into custody. That is enough.

Air gun or pellet guy no matter what it was the children were in the wrong for having it at school and even playing with it! Parents need to watch thier children a little more closer and keep those things put away so they don't take it to school and take it out when they are at home and being watch by a parent! Thank goodness it wasn't a real gun and nobody got hurt really bad!

I am unnerved that the comments of the blogs are focused on the reporter instead of on the parents of the student who brought the weapon to school. Violence, disrespect, and rudeness is overwhelmingly present within our schools and it seems that the parents of the guilty defend their children. The parents should be punished severly for not monitoring their children.

Why is it any of your business releasing even just the first name of one of the kids involved? There is a reason that the names were not released, and even if you know the names you should show some professionalism and not mention them.

Good Morning. I don't believe Air soft guns fire pellets. They use plastic BB's. The word pellet implies a lot more danger than an Air soft gun has. I believe the word pellets is not appropriate for this story. Joe
