RENO, Nev. - Over a hundred people waited hours outside Rainbow Markets on Vasser St. Tuesday to fill their gas tanks at a discounted price.
The discount was offered by an organization called the Gas Can Man. That organization is funded by the PAC Morning in America which focuses on energy policies in the country.
It was part of a campaign to highlight what the organization believes are the failed energy policies of this administration.
"The idea is to really remind voters, come election day, gas prices are astronomical these days," Michael Findlay, a representative from the Gas Can Man said. "Just three short years ago, the month Pres. Obama was inaugurated, gas was $1.84."
Findlay says it's President Obama's hurtful energy policies that have caused gas prices to sky rocket. He points to the Keystone Pipeline and the moratorium on off-shore drilling as examples.
But not everyone agrees.
"Gimmicks like these are simply designed to distracted the voters from the real issues of the election," Pam duPre, Executive Director of the Washoe County Democratic Party said.
"With all the Republican backed tax breaks, it's easy for the oil tycoons like the Koch brothers to offer gimmicks like this."
One of the organization helping fund the event was Americans for Prosperity, a political organization largely supported by billionaires David and Charles Koch. Together, they co-own Koch Industries.
Politics aside, those who waited in line for the discount say it was a much needed relief.
"I'm glad they are doing this for people like me who can't afford 4 dollar gas," Rafaela Villarreal, a Reno resident said.
Other organizations helping to fund this event include the National Rifle Association, American Commitment, and the LIBRE Initiative.
