CARSON CITY, NV - The inmates have been working for weeks on a routine they’ll perform for visitors who come to Northern Nevada Correctional Center on Saturday in search for a newly trained Mustang.
Each horse has had up to four months worth of training.
Some of the inmates have done this nearly a dozen times.
For others it's a first.
That's the case with Harry Hamman and his horse Little Leo.
“Real patience, like where I'm at with dealing with patience and there's times I was really frustrated. I don’t know if I can do this. How do you deal with these animals? You have to learn to speak their language,” says Hamman
Inmates are happy to show you what they can do on the horses after spending hours and hours with them.
Clearly the horses trust them and for first time trainers like Hamman, it’s not easy to see them go.
“An open field with knee high grass and someone to ride,” Hamman says when it comes to Leo’s future.
Another opportunity Saturday, an orphan foal adoption program where five foals, halter trained, will be auctioned off as well.
Little Leo, Sleepy Hollow, Drako, Apple Jax and T-Bird, are just some of the 16 horses to be adopted Saturday at the prison.
If you're interested the doors open at 9 for viewing, the auction begins at 10 in Carson City.
The prison says if you plan on coming out, the only restriction is that you not wear blue clothing—no blue jeans, tanks tops or shorts.

I THINK IT'S AWESOME.WHAT THE MEN ARE DOING FOR THE HORSES. GOOD JOB MEN.
Good job, men. This program needs to be expanded in both the number and locations. This is the best utilization of mustangs there is.
