Carson City, Nev. - After lobbying for it since 2009, Carson City resident Jim Shirk has succeeded in getting a beam from the World Trade Center to Carson City.
He says numerous people from the community helped him along the way.
He read about other cities getting World Trade Center beams, and thought Carson City should have one, too.
Even though the process took more than two years, he says watching peoples' reactions at the dedication ceremony on 9/11/11 made it all worth it.
The beam weighs 1,500 pounds and sits atop two pillars that represent the two towers.
The beam is currently in Mills Park until the city decides on a permanent location.
