RENO, Nev. Washoe County Commissioners are holding the last of three public hearings on Nevada Assembly Bill 46 Tuesday night at 4 p.m at the Washoe County Commission Chambers at 1001 E. Ninth St. in Reno.

County Commissioners are looking for public input, as well as looking for answers from the Washoe County School District, before they vote to raise property and sales taxes.

"They exempted themselves from the 3% and 8% growth limitation [on property taxes]," David Humke, Washoe County Commissioner said. "The 3% growth is to residential properties and the 8% is for commercial properties. I don't know why the Legislature passed this bill in the form that it did with those exemptions. I just want to know their reasoning from a school district standpoint."

Those property tax limitations were passed by the Legislature in 2005.

County Commissioners have until January 1, 2014 to determine whether to enact AB 46. The bill, signed into law by Governor Sandoval in June, gives County Commissioners the authority to increase Washoe County's sales tax by 1/4 of 1 percent, and county property taxes by 5 cents per $100 of assessed value.

The money is designated for school repairs and maintenance.

During Tuesday's public hearing, Commissioners are looking for the public's input. You can provide input on whether the Commissioners should:

* Approve passage of taxes authorized by AB 46
*Approve a portion of the taxes authorized by AB 46
*Approve the sales tax only
*Approve the property tax only
*Approve taxes as authorized with a sunset provision
*Take no action and allow the item to expire on January 1, 2014 as provided for in the bill.
