Myanmar Begins to Accept Outside Aid

The U.N. Secretary-General said today Myanmar will now allow delivery of aid to its cyclone victims by civilian ships and boats.

The wording of Ban's announcement suggests outside ships waiting off Myanmar's coast would not be allowed to dock. It left open the possibility that civilian boats could ferry supplies to shore.

The Secretary General said earlier the government agreed to allow "all aid workers" into the country to help survivors.
