With ExpressJet's inaugural flight out of the Reno Tahoe International Airport today, passengers have another choice for their air travel.
ExpressJet will have daily nonstop service to four non-stop locations: Spokane, Long Beach, Ontario, and Tucson.
ExpressJet officials are promising competitive fares and said they have hired between 15 and 20 people locally for jobs at ramp gates and ticket counters.
The company plans to invest $375,000 in facilities and equipment at the Reno-Tahoe airport.
Southwest has traditionally been the low cost airline in and out of Reno. Southwest Airlines offers the most flights out of the Biggest Little City. Airport officials say time will tell if Southwest lowers their fares to compete with ExpressJet, or the other way around. Either way, the Airport Authority says adding one more airline to the mix is always a good way to keep fares competitive.
Adding ExpressJet to the line-up is good news for the airport, since United Airlines has cut it's service from Reno to San Fransisco. And, Northwest and Frontier no longer service our local airport.
