RENO, Nev. – There is a phone scam warning across Nevada and a statewide Nevada organization wants everyone to know about it.
Rusty McAllister with the Professional Firefighters of Nevada says someone is calling people asking them to donate money for injured firefighters.
McAllister says “We (PFFN members) never solicit money from the community by telephone. We fundraise for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) through our boot drive, and are currently implementing a ‘Coats for Kids’ campaign, but we will not and have not initiated a phone solicitation campaign.”
A similar scam happened last year, but public awareness helped prevent more people from falling victim.
If you get one of these calls, hang up.
