SPARKS, NV - So the kids are grown up, but they're visiting for the holidays and they're bringing your new grandchild. But you tossed out all the kids' stuff decades ago. What do you do?
Well, someone posed that question to Sheila O'Connor, who owns a shop called Always a Find at Prater and Sparks Boulevard.
"I have a lot of customers that have been coming in and have family visiting either for a weekend or a week and a lot of them were worrying about the expense of buying something that they're only going to use once or twice."
Smart businesswoman she is, she recognized a need and decided to fill it.
"I said you know we should just do it. I'll rent things out to people."
O'Connor's store primarily sells what she describes as "gently used clothing, toys and other things for kids, infants to teens."
For this new sideline she's bought new items and packaged them for rental. on a daily basis, weekly, whatever. There's just about every thing needed to contain and entertain the very young.
"Where are they going to sleep? How are we going to keep them out of this area? So, I have gates. I have Pack 'n Plays. I have mini-folding cribs. Bouncers, swings. I have a little bit of every thing that usually infants or toddlers require."
Reaction to the idea so far, she says, has been encouraging. Sheila O'Connor may have found one way of making that holiday visit a little less stressful.
"When they're at the table everyone can enjoy the meal instead of passing the baby around. They baby can sit in his own high chair and enjoy the meal as well."
