YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (AP) - Officials at Yosemite National Park are proposing $15 million worth of changes at the park's Mariposa Grove they say would improve the habitat for the nearly 500 giant sequoias in the park.

In a draft environmental report released Tuesday Yosemite officials say they want to end tram rides though the towering trees, take down a gift shop and remove a parking lot.

They're also proposing improving trails in the area so visitors can hike to the grove, as well as rerouting a road away from a wetlands area, allowing it to be restored.

The plan is available on the park's website. Comments will be accepted through May 7.
