VALLEJO, Calif. (AP) - Vallejo police say a woman came across a grisly scene on Wednesday afternoon when she came home to find her uncle dead with a severed hand.
The unidentified 44-year-old man had apparently cut off his left hand with a butcher knife after going to his brother's house and finding no one home.
The Times-Herald of Vallejo reports that he died of blood loss.
Police say he had previously been put on mental evaluation holds. He apparently tried to cut off his left arm before severing his hand.
